Osaka in autumn – day 2

#sushi #okonomiyaki

Even though we were pursuing a leisurely trip, our schedule on the second day was tighter than expected. Because today was the day we met Jay’s friend’s family! The reason we came here even though it was difficult this time was because we had a fall Autumn-trip with them, so we was both excited and worried from the morning at the thought of meeting them.

If you travel in Japan, please no reservation breakfast on hotel 🙂  There are many reasons not to request hotel breakfast in Japan, we like the fresh air and atmosphere we feel as we walk around in the morning of Japan’s small streets. If you’re near a market, you might go to a place you like while looking around, especially if it’s already open, or get recommendations for a good restaurant from people you meet. Today, we tried a historical cafe with a pretty tile building that I had noticed while passing by yesterday night. Before visiting, I looked at the google reviews and found that a video of the owner getting into a fight with a young man’s parked bicycle and getting angry and stomping on it went viral on TikTok, and there wasn’t a single good comment about the store. I thought he might be angry at us too(haha), so I laughed a little and went in. Everywhere was filled with vintage sensibility. The grandfather (the owner) came personally and gave us the menu. The menu was typical of old Japanese cafes – sandwiches, cakes, coffee. In Japan, we like trying egg sandwiches (from the Tamago sandwich – Please check the names and meanings below.) and a different style with cucumbers to the various types of egg-related sandwiches you see every time you travel!), so I ordered an egg sandwich and two cups of black coffee. The sando was better than expected, and the coffee tasted like strong roasted Japanese style coffee.

  • Tamago sandwich : Japanese Sandwiches: Sando
These sandos (the Japanese name for sandwiches) are made from simple ingredients like Japanese milk bread filled with pork cutlets, eggs, or fruit, and offer quick and delicious meals that even people like Anthony Bourdain appreciate.
Tamago Sando (卵サンド) literally means “egg sandwich” in Japanese, and it refers to the Japanese version of the egg salad sandwich. Although both sandwiches and egg salad are Western inventions, it’s evolved into something uniquely Japanese.
  • This coffe shop : MATOBA

Now we have to go see J’s friends, but for some reason, I stopped by the traditional snack shop I had my eye on yesterday here ^^ and made a great excuse to buy at least a little souvenir!!! So we went to the snack shop haha!! (I love visiting traditional confectionery stores while traveling! I also have a good appetite) – photo will upload below –

Finally lunch!! The place we went to with J’s friends was a place I had already seen, but my expectations were even higher because it was also on Kaya’s list of places she wanted to go to. Although the sashimi is frozen, it has become famous through social media due to the feeling of eating while standing on the street and the owner’s fire performance. she said that it is a place where even Japanese people line up.

Strangely enough, we ran into Kaya’s family on the way to the restaurant, and they hurried to line up in front of the store. In fact, Osaka in mid-November was colder than I thought, so I couldn’t even take out the clothes I brought to look pretty, so I ended up wearing the same jacket and scarf every day. In this situation, I was worried about queuing outside, including the baby, but it was earlier than I thought, so we decided to wait line! – Because we want it that much haha!

It was delicious!!! From the tekamaki (tuna seaweed rapping sushi = kind of Kimbab?) to the tuna and eel, I think the sushi was really fresh, thick, and of good quality. The reason I didn’t think it was of good quality was that they even saw it being heated using a microwave (since it was a street market anyway) and the frozen sushi was served. Looking at it, they also sell special parts such as belly fat and cheek fat! As we were watching the owner’s fire show performance together, he said, “Oh, this place became more famous”  It was cold while waiting. If you go after October, you’ll have to wait in line, so pack your clothes! (The wait is worth! Recommended!!!!) Ah! There is no place to sit, so if you are traveling with a baby, think twice! Our Japanese friend had a baby, and the four of us took turns sitting on our thighs to eat haha. Even though there are many inconveniences, the reason we go there is because it has a special atmosphere and is great for a daytime drink! Personally, as I said above, I recommend this place! However, I don’t think I would highly recommend it to those who are looking for convenience, hygiene, or high- quality food.

After finishing our meal, we parted ways with our friends and went to see nearby Osaka Castle to digest food and have a look around. If you pay an entrance fee to Osaka Castle, you can go up to the castle, but as we don’t pay much attention to tourist attractions, we weren’t curious and just walked around. Haha, then take a seat and took out what i bought today morning!  mochi! And ate it, and it was so —– delicious… sticky… sticky… Osaka Castle was pretty ^^

Osaka Part 3. #okonomiyaki

Now that we’ve walked around, it’s time to eat dinner, right? ^^ Although the concept wasn’t a taste tour ^^ While we were in this neighborhood, I looked my pins for a place nearby. It reminded me of the okonomiyaki restaurant that Manager Matsuda (Japan youtuber who lived in Osaka and can speak Korea well)  introduced me to some time ago. Actually, the okonomiyaki taste is obvious(?), but it still seems like a dish you have to eat when you come to Osaka. And it’s true that the atmosphere of that old restaurant was attractive, so go to Genki! As soon as we entered, perhaps because it was early for dinner time, the men in suits as seen in the youtube were not crowed there yet, and they guided us to the central grill bar. They have menu in English, so it was convenient! Aside from the English menu, there was a board with the best items written on it, so we chose the 1st and 2nd best items – Okonomiyaki and tonpei!  – from there and add ordered some fresh seafood dish also. I was even more excited because it was made right in front of us, and the Osaka unique okonomiyaki and tonpei (pork) were also delicious. It was delicious, but the okonomiyaki itself didn’t have a special taste that made me “wow”, but we enjoyed the atmosphere and had fun with the friendliness. If you go nearby, stop by in the evening and the atmosphere will feel like a local, so it’s better than a tourist area. I recommend it if you like that kind of thing!

Osaka Part 4. #dessert

Digestion goes well with shopping,,, ^^ There is a Grand Front Osaka building nearby, so you can look at the Japan’s various brands there… and…..Do you have to stop by The City Bakery? The croissant line there is really buttery, crispy, and the size is beautiful… I was worried because it was dinner time, but luckily there were pretzel croissants so I quickly grabbed one (a place I want to enjoy brunch someday!) and went back to the hotel. It seems like this is the end of the day ^^

Still, I ate well, so it was a beautiful day!

Whether you are traveling to Osaka, are interested in it, or came across this post for something else, I hope it was a good connection and I hope to see you again!
