Not long ago, I wrote an article about Korea Gwangjang Market and the detailed food introduction made the article too long, so I organized it separately here. I have compiled Wikipedia and my experience, my thoughts about the foods mentioned in the article, so I hope it will be helpful to those who are in Korea, preparing to come to Korea, or who like Korean food. If you have any more questions about food, please leave a comment!

  • Nude Gimbap : If you know about “Gimbap”, it’s easy to think of it as a simple Korean sandwich concept, where rice is wrapped in seaweed and filled with vegetables, tuna, meat, sausage.. with various sauces and variations, and can be eaten instead of a meal. It is a basic snack that you naturally take with you when you go hiking, have breakfast before going to work, or go on a picnic. Nude gimbap refers to kimbap in which the steam is inside and the contents are exposed on the outside or the rice is rolled up.

  • Japchae  Japchae (雜菜, English: Japchae) is a food made by mixing boiled glass noodles(made by potato starch) with stir-fried ingredients such as meat, mushrooms, and vegetables and then stir-fried in sesame oil with various vegetables such as finely shredded beef, carrots, spinach, mushrooms, and onions, and then seasoned with soy sauce. Japchae is often decorated by sprinkling sesame seeds on top. Japchae is sometimes ordered as a main dish, but in Korean cuisine, it is usually eaten as a side dish, like a side dish.

  • Busan Odeng : Oden (Japanese: おでん) is a dish that originated in Japan, and is a dish made by boiling various fish cakes in soup with radish and konjac. (seafood broth base). The Japanese word ‘oden’ refers to the dish itself, but in Korean-speaking countries, ‘oden’ is used to refer to individual fish cakes used in soup, and the entire soup is called ‘oden soup.’Usually, square, thin oden are folded and placed on long wooden skewers and sold one by one, and oden broth is served in a paper cup. The Busan region, famous for its beaches in Korea, is famous for its oden (possibly because it is close to Japan), so oden restaurants usually add Busan in front of their names. – wikipia + my opinion.

  • Gangane Tteokbokki : Tteokbokki is a Korean dish whose main ingredient is Garaetteok (thin and long shape rice cake). Typical Tteokbokki is stir-fried food with seasonings such as wheat rice cake, origin rice cake, fish cake, vegetables, and red pepper paste, and is a representative street food in Korea. It can be seasoned based on red pepper paste and soy sauce, with the former being the most representative form. As the anthem of modern Korean food, it is one of Korea’s new national foods. I really liked tteokbokki. This is actually a very stimulating and filling snack because the main sauce is red pepper paste and sugar. If you are not good at spicy food, it may be difficult to eat, so please be aware of this. Tteokbokki that is not spicy cannot be called tteokbokki in Korea. ^^ I heard that in the West, this may be why it is less spicy and sweeter than Korean tteokbokki. This tteokbokki restaurant made with particularly thick rice cakes, and the sauce is so delicious that I recommend dipping the fried food sold together with the tteokbokki sauce. Their sauce is so famous that it is sold separately and people love it. If we were to compare and understand American culture, wouldn’t Tteokbokki be similar to American hot dogs? Tacos? – wikipia + my opinion. ah! and about the store names, Gangane is Korean for Kang’s family(family name), and is a case where the family name is added in front of the tteokbokki, in the old days in Korea, people were often referred to only by their last name.

  • Mother and Daughter Kimbap : Little kimbap is one of the various versions of kimbap described above, and is much smaller in size than traditional kimbap and has simple contents. It is easy for kids to pick up and eat, and since the portion itself is significantly small, it can be eaten anywhere without any burden. However, the reason why this restaurant is famous is that even though it is a kimbap with a simple contents, it has a great umami taste, and when you eat this kimbap with the wasabi sauce that store served with kimbap, it tastes so strangely delicious. I recommend you. ah! Never eat kimbap the next day. Rice becomes hard and spoils easily in warm weather.

  • Bindaetteok : Bindaetteok, mung bean pancake (錄豆—), mung bean pancake (綠豆煎), mung bean pancake (綠豆煎餠), or mung bean jijim (綠豆–) is ground mung bean mixed with bellflower root, fern, green onion, kimchi, pepper, meat, etc. It is a pancake made by frying thinly(mung bean bindaettoeck usually thick!) in a pan. Pork or chicken is mainly used, but different ingredients can be used. Eat with soy sauce. When traveling, it is the food that tempts you with the most easily deceptive smell of fried food at the market. In fact, in Korea, pancakes are a food eaten on holidays and are said to have been used to fill the stomachs of the elderly in the old days when it was difficult to eat, but Jeon or Bindaetteok are still eaten on holidays. Also, it’s a strange rule, but when Koreans drink makgeolli, it comes with Jeon or Bindaetteok. The reason why this place’s Bindaetteok are famous is because you can see the grilling process right in front of you, and the process of frying it almost as if dipping it in oil is a technique that can never be made at home. There is a menu called Gogiwanja(gogi=meat, wanja=small Joen or Bindaetteock) with lightly fried meat like Bindaetteok, which are really delicious and very cheap. That’s why you can’t just order this(only order this is so cheap), so make sure to order mung bean bindaetteok and meatballs together – I remember there was a set – and there was a Korean alcohol made from rice! Don’t forget makgeolli! In fact, the Bindaetteok taste actullay here and next door are all the same, so go and eat them wherever there is no que. However, Sunhee’s (the person’s name is Sunhee, i.e. Sunhee’s, similar to the Kang’s mentioned above) Bindaetteok is more famous because Hollywood directors and actors visited here before.
